PROGRAM

ABOUT

A staged futuristic revival of Mary Shelley’s haunting tale – FRANKENSTEIN, presented by Simonds Catholic College.

Four public performances will feature a talented cast of Year 7 to 11 students from our extracurricular Drama program.

2055, the city of Melbourne, Australia. Artificial intelligence looms to resolve all problems, great and small. Frankenstein, a world leader in technological development, has created a living, breathing Intelligence. Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein's bewildered Intelligence is cast out into a hostile, unforgiving city by his horror-struck maker. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the Intelligence determines to track down his creator.

Recommended for ages 10+. Includes staged scenes of violence, mild horror, loud SFX and flashing lighting effects.

Hosted at the Lithuanian Club, North Melbourne. Travel by Tram 57, Train to Nth Melbourne station or ample parking nearby

DATES

Thursday 8 August 2024 - Saturday 10 August 2024

LOCATION

AUDITIONS

Excitingly, we have held our auditions for the 2024 Simonds production, ‘Frankenstein: A Modern Intelligence’. Featuring a cast of 20 students from Years 7-11, we hope to build on the success of our inaugural production of ‘Treasure Island’ in 2022 and our collaboration with Academy’s ‘Legally Blonde’ in 2023.

Year 11 student Nghia Dao features as the ‘Intelligence’, a 21st century interpretation of Frankenstein’s monster – an artificial intelligence. Year 9 student Killian Redfern will be performing as none other than Victor Frankenstein himself, as the morally warped scientist and intelligence developer. This year’s production plans to experiment with projection, lighting, and sound, involving 15 students in the backstage production processes. Dates, ticket prices, and more event information will be released soon.
